There are many ways to promote your website for free online. Here are 10 highly effective strategies you can use right now.

1. Write articles or free reports for other webmasters to publish and put your website address in the by-line. If you write good content, your articles will be published and many readers who like your article will go on to visit your website.

2. Arrange a Joint Venture partnership with List owners and Webmasters.

3. Add your ad or website address to your email signature. This way, every time you send an email, you’ll be promoting your website.

4. Exchange Links with Other Webmasters. This is another effective strategy for generating targeted traffic to your website for free. It involves contacting other webmasters for a possible link exchange partnership.

5. Add a blog to your site and Ping weblogs.com and other search engines. Pinging your blogs to the search engines is the fastest way to get the search engine robots to visit your blog and attract new visitors to your web site.

The subject of referral traffic may be a bit elementary to many folks who have been networking for a while. However, a few recent discussions with new marketers have led me to the conclusion that a brief commentary on the subject might be well received.

Referral traffic is web traffic you receive when you refer other people to the viral traffic programs (traffic exchanges, ad replicators, and similar systems) you are a member of. For the sake of simplicity, I will use traffic exchanges as my primary example in this article.

While there are a few exceptions, the huge majority of exchanges operate a referral traffic system. When you register a new account with a traffic exchange, you will be given a special affiliate URL for the purpose of building your downline in that program. Many exchanges will award you with an instant bonus of free traffic credits each time you refer a new member, and nearly all exchanges grant you an amount of referral traffic that is equal to a percentage of the traffic your downline generates while they surf.

Well, an effective link building strategy is not building some 50-100 back links with sites with ‘X’ PR. It is more of getting links from the informative websites that is visited often by the people who could be your future customers. In broad sense the websites related to your focus industry.

Link popularity refers to the number of links pointing to and from related sites and is an extremely important method of improving your site’s relevancy in search engines.

There are three types of links that will increase the link popularity of your site; internal, incoming and, to a lesser extent, outgoing links.

Let’s take a look at each one in more detail.

Internal links

Internal links are amount of links to and from pages in a site. Cross-linking your important related pages is recommended for a better search engine visibility. This assists search engine spiders to find and index your most key pages faster, particularly if some pages are hidden deep within your site.

If you are looking for an immediate increase in your website traffic, and you don’t want to shell out a lot of money for pay-per-click search engines, I’ll let you in on a secret that has helped me make many sales and build large lists very quickly with zero cash up-front: it’s called “OPT” (Other People’s Traffic).

Other website operators have the targeted website visitors you need right now - you just have to convince them to funnel some of it your way. First, you need to create a links page. This links page needs to look and feel the same as the rest of your site and should include instructions on how to link to your site and an example of the description you want. If you use buttons for links, make sure you include a text link somewhere so search engines can find your links page easily.

Now that you have your links page ready, it’s time to start looking for link partners. When searching for link partners, start by searching for your keywords in Google and choose 10 to 20 sites that have content that is related to or can compliment your site. Then, add a text link with a brief description of thier site on your links page.

A reciprocal link is when a web site links to you and you link back to them.

Look before you link!

Indiscriminate linking can be harmful to your search engine rankings and your reputation. When considering another website for a link exchange, always check out the potential link partner’s web site and the page that your link is going to be placed on.

Five essential rules to follow when choosing a link partner.

1. Make sure that the website is related to yours. For example, if you’re a real estate agent, don’t exchange links with pages about diet pills or casinos. Link to other real estate related web sites, like mortgages or real estate agents in other areas.

2. Don’t link to link farms. You can tell a page is a link farm by the fact that there’s usually no company logo, hundreds of links and no real content.

Does anyone really enjoy the tedium of spending hours upon hours searching for quality link partners? I know I don’t. That’s why I’ve devised a free and incredibly easy method for generating thousands of incoming links to websites that takes the hassle out of getting other sites to link to you.

The number of incoming links you will be able to generate is directly proportional to the number of hits on your website. The good news is that even if you have only a small handful of visitors coming to your site daily, you still have the potential to generate a substantial amount of links pointed your way.

Here are the two simple steps required to start generating your free incoming links:

1. Carry this article on your website and feature it prominently. The more people who see it, the more incoming links you’ll potentially receive.

2. Create a “featured site” link that creates a new window when clicked on. This “featured site” will be the website where you originally viewed this article. The original window containing your website will stay open, so your visitor will eventually return to view your page.

So, you’ve added Adsense to your site and you are getting a few clicks. You could be thinking to yourself, How do I get a massive amount of visitors to bump up my earnings? If you’re anything like me, you hear those stories about webmasters that have added Adsense and are already earning five figure incomes per month, and you start to see the dollar signs.

So you start brainstorming. You come up with a few ideas: email marketing, ebooks, trial software, etc. The thirst for Adsense dollars (and maybe a few affiliate dollars) is your main drive. Pushing massive amounts of traffic through your site can give you quite a thrill ride.

Then along comes the well known email that markets the traffic exchanges. If you aren’t familiar with traffic exchanges, it’s really very simple. You see, you sign up for their service (which often times is free) and your website is put in a list. The way the free traffic works is that you surf the web using their browser, browsing sites that are in their directory (or list) and every 30 seconds you can refresh to a new site. As you continue to do this, it builds up credits for your account that you use for other people who are using their browser to see your site.

Why on earth would anyone want to install a piece of spyware onto their Web browser? No sensible right minded person would ?unless you are a webmaster and you want to improve your SERPS ranking that is.

The Alexa toolbar is not "technically" spyware as it doesn’t retrieve any private or personal information. It does however log all the sites you visit and as webmasters we can use this to our advantage. It uses this information to compile traffic ranking statistics and a relational list. The relational list is very useful as it shows what other sites people who have looked the current website have also visited. Alexa is owned by Amazon and it is possible to make your own Alexa toolbar with your Amazon affiliate code included. You can then place this on your site and get credited when anyone buys through Amazon using the Amazon button on the toolbar you’ve distributed, it is also possible to include a link to your site in the toolbar.
